The damage was structural, not cosmetic. NWS documented "destroyed carports, blown-in garage doors, and roof parts blown off," with large trees uprooted and power poles snapped. Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service reported more than 50,000 customers without power at the height of the storm. The worst of it hit Avondale, where winds lifted and rolled metal construction pipes weighing at least 1,000 pounds each into a neighboring area.
August 12, western Arizona. A separate system brought damaging winds, a dust storm, and flash flooding to the Imperial Valley and Quartzsite, with radar-estimated rainfall of 2 to 4 inches around Quartzsite and peak gusts near 59 mph at regional airports.
